9/7/2023 0 Comments Mina the hollower demo![]() ![]() Mina The Hollower appears to be another hit in the long list of great games from Yacht Club Games. It was tough but fair boss fight and when I figured out what to do, I was golden. I also used the dash attack for range and to get away from the monster faster. I found that faster attacks were better for me so I used the daggers to attack often. The boss fight of the demo was a headless statue, complete with tentacles. Make sure you use that to your advantage. I also loved the orange-red level which reminds me of autumn in Oracle of seasons (I love Tarm Ruins theme btw).Yeah, specially after playing Links awakening on the Game Boy. You can also jump over all kinds of things like enemies or holes in the ground. I found myself using daggers and a dash attack that could ram the enemy, If you rammed the enemy just right, they would be thrown across the stage, giving me plenty of time to attack with the daggers and whip. You have your trust whip but you also have different sub weapons and abilities to use. Similar to Shovel Knight, you will find yourself checking every corner of every screen as you never know what wall can be broken or what cavern you can burrow through. There are all kinds of secrets to discover in this game. If you do use the vault, you will be able to get that currency back. If you die out in the world and didn’t bank, you can’t use them later. 15 Images At first glance, Mina the Hollower plays as your go-to 2D action-adventure with a top down perspective, but it also reminds me of what I would find in a platformer without. You will also want to use the bank/vault system in the burrow since you will lose them if you don’t bank them here. You also can select new weapons to use as well as set sub weapons in this area. ![]() You have to burrow into what looks like fairy fountain a la Legend of Zelda but the fairy is missing. Mina The Hollower puts a horror spin on classic gameplay. It’s neat to see that the checkpoint system is alive and well in Mina the Hollower. The demo stage looked like a graveyard and you had to fight crows, skeletons and all kinds of monsters. Compared to Shovel Knight, Mina has a darker tone and that’s the direction the developers wanted to take Mina The Hollower. That being said, this game feels like the next hit for Yacht Club Games. Castlevania had weapons that you needed hearts to use. What I mean by that is with Mina having extra weapons that cost something to use each time. One could also say that Mina takes inspiration from Castlevania as well. Graphically, Mina the Hollower gives off Legend of Zelda Game Boy Color vibes. Finite Color - Art assets in Mina the Hollower all conform to the Game Boy Colors palette restrictions, limiting sprites to only 4 colors per 8x8 pixel tile. When I found out Yacht Club was going to be at PAX, I knew I had to stop by the booth and play some Mina the Hollower. I had heard a lot about Mina the Hollower on the Internet. That being said, Yacht Club Games as at PAX East again this year showing off their next hit, Mina the Hollower. I remember finding a glitch in the Tinker Knight stage while I was playing the game for review on Wii U. I also was lucky enough to receive Shovel Knight as one of my first reviews when it came out for practically every Nintendo platform. They were one of my first interviews many years ago. Yacht Club still has some Shovel Knight projects in the works, with Shovel Knight Dig on the horizon and updates to Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon coming soon.Yacht Club Games will always hold a special place in the gaming industry for me. For more info on the Kickstarter and its backer rewards and goals, head over to the Mina the Hollower project page. No release date has been given for Mina the Hollower, but we hope to be whipping and digging soon. To sweeten the deal for backers, Yacht Club is partnering with Fangamer to create physical rewards such as "a physical soundtrack, enamel pins, an art book, and an adorable plush." ![]() We also want to share our development process, more than ever before!” More importantly, we want to build a community around Kickstarter, much like we did with Shovel Knight. In the press release provided to Game Informer, Director Alec Faulkner spoke about why the Kickstarter is being utilized again, saying, “We want your feedback, collaboration, and support in making Mina the Hollower the best game it can possibly be." Alec continues, "Though we’re financing a majority of this project ourselves, we hope we can create a more expansive game this way. Take control of Mina, a renowned Hollower hurtled into a desperate mission to. Like Shovel Knight before it, Yacht Club Games is starting a Kickstarter campaign for Mina, but don't worry the studio is fronting most of the funds to make the project a reality. Descend into a frightful world of action-adventure in Mina the Hollower. ![]()
